***GEAR***

  1. Air horn

  2. Axe

  3. Batteries for headlamp (depends on length of hike)

  6. Cards (plastic) – drivers licence, debit and credit cards

  7. Compass

  8. Crawdads

  9. Dromedary – bring 2 litre dromedary for drinking water.

  10. Emergency fire starter kit

  11. Fanny pack – (only if there is enough gear to fill it).

  12. First aid kit

  13. Flagging – (unless trail is very well defined)

  14. Glasses

  15. Gps unit and spare batteries

  16. Gps – make sure I have proper map coverage

  17. Hand lotion

  18. Headlamp

  19. Insect repellent (most often I never use it)

  20. Key – only bring one key for vehicle

  21. Key – remove magnetic key box and hide the key away from the truck

  22. Kleenex (together with wipes and glasses cleaner)

  23. Lighters(2) – make sure they are full and working well

  24. Maps – road and trip maps

  25. Money

  26. Multi-tool with knife on it

  27. Pen and paper

  28. Phone – does iphone have maps, books and music for trip

  29. Plastic zip lock bags for misc use

  30. Pouch -- cordura nylon zippered pouch (if there is enough gear to fill it)

  31. Radio – portable radio

  37. Water bottle – fill before I go

***PERSONAL CLEANING KIT***

 

Note – the following 2 items are kept in a mesh bag

Sponges (2) – one for washing and the other for rinsing (sponge bath).  Or could replace one sponge with a non-cotton wash cloth.

Soap – use one bottle of concentrated liquid dish soap for everything

 

***CLOTHING***

  1. Bathing suit (not normally necessary)

  2. Cap

  3. Gloves – (only the cold season)

  4. Jacket -gortex or lighter jacket

  5. Pajamas – use my long underwear + a pair of thin socks

  6. Pants with belt

  7. Raingear – blue Sierra Design pants, plastic cycling overjacket and kayak hat

  8. Sandals

  9. Shirt (2)- poly long sleeved and a short sleeved for hiking in

  10. Shorts - 2 pair of hiking shorts

  11. Socks  (3)– 2 pair of poly for hiking in and 1 light pair for around the camp

  12. Sweater – light or heavier long sleeved shirt for layering at night

  13. Underwear – wool – 1 pair

 

***COOKING / EATING EQUIPMENT***

  1. Bowl(s)

  2. Can opener (multi-tool has a can opener)

  3. Cup(s)

  4. Cutlery

  5. Cutting board

  6. Dish soap (one soap for everything)

  7. Flipper (not necessary most of the time on a hike)

  8. Foam / scour pad combination for washing dishes

  9. Fuel – methyl hydrate for Triangia stove

  10. Fuel – make sure the stove tank & bottle are full before departing

  11. Juice container (use water bottle)

  12. knife (multi-tool)

  13. Large canteen if in a group

  14. Pot – large aluminum pot

  15. Pot set with stove

 

***FIRST AID KIT***

 

  1. Antihistamine

  2. Bandaids

  3. Eye dropper

  4. Gauze pads

  5. Gauze – roll of white gauze

  6. Magnifying glass

  7. Moleskin

  8. Needles (2)

  9. Q-tips

  10. Safety pins

  11. Stretchy tape for sprains

  15. Tape - white adhesive

***FOOD - BREAKFAST***

 

  1. Cereal that can be eaten hot or cold (don't beleive portions)

  2. Crystal light

  3. Eggs

  4. Egg container

  5. Granola

  6. High shelf life milk

  7. Oatmeal – large flake – eat with dried fruit and gorp

  8. Powdered milk

  9. Salt and pepper

  10. Sugar for use with the oatmeal

 

***FOOD - LUNCH***

 

  1. Bagles

  2. Candies

  3. Cheese

  4. Creamed cheese or salmon to use with bagels

  5. Crystal light crystals for making water tastier

  6. Dried meat

  7. Fruit – fresh (apples and oranges)

  8. Ryevita or hardtack

  9. Pita bread

  10. Sausage

  11. Tomato paste (garlic) in squeeze tube

  12. Tortillas (soft) in re-sealable bag

 

***FOOD - DINNER***

 

  1. Chili ingredients

  2. Cutlets tofu (spiced)

  3. Ham – cooked

  4. Liquor

  5. Noodle soups

  6. Noodle and rice dishes

  7. Potatoes (instant)

  8. Prunes

  9. Spices+ – cayenne, salt, pepper, curry, chili flakes, balsamic vinegar, oil

  10. Vegetables - dried (peas are great)

  11. Vegetables (fresh) – bring carrots and celery

 

***SNACKS***

 

  1. Chocolate bars

  2. Coco powder and sugar to mix with powdered milk

  3. Dried fruit (apricots) (good for breakfast oatmeal)

  4. Trail mix (gorp)

 

***GROUP STUFF***

 

  1. axe (1) for the group

  2. 1 litre each of juice and long shelf life milk

  3. Pot – large aluminum pot for heating water by fire and large meals

 

***OVER-NIGHTING GEAR***

 

  1. Pajamas (long underwear and socks)

  2. Matress – Thermorest

  3. Tarp(s)

  4. Sleeping bag

  5. Pillow

  6. Tent and footprint/tarp and fly

***TOILETRIES***

  1. Comb / hair brush

  2. Container for water in lieu of toilet paper

  3. Deodorant

  4. Floss

  5. Mirror (in compass)

  6. Q-tips

  7. Razor (don’t bother in most cases
